You have determined the model of your 94 Winchester. Now you will need to determine if you have a variation within your model of the post-64 Winchester series.
Step 2: Determine the Variation of model types
Select one of the following choices from each Model 94
The "Standard" Model 94 has a straight stock with no checkering -- | |||
The barrel is 20" - You have the Standard variation. | |||
The barrel is 24" - You have the Standard variation with a 24" barrel. | |||

The "Traditional CW" Model 94 has a fancy straight stock with checkering -- | |||
The barrel is 20" with checkering on stock- You have the upgraded checkerd variation with full magazine. | |||

The Ranger 94 has a straight stock with no checkering -- | |||
The barrel is 20" - You have the regular Ranger variation. | |||
The barrel is 16" - You have the Ranger "Compact" variation. | |||

The XTR has a checkered walnut stock | |||
The stock has standard checkering and caliber is 30-30 or 7-30 Waters - You have the regular XTR variation. | |||
The stock has extra fancy checkering and caliber is 30-30 only- You have the Deluxe XTR variation. | |||
The stock has standard checkering and caliber is 307, 356 or 375 - You have the "Big Bore" XTR variation (up to 1989). | |||

The Trapper has a 16" barrel and comes in 30-30, 44 Rem. Mag., .357 Mag, and 45 Colt | |||
The overall length is less than 34"- You have the Trapper Compact | |||
The overall length is greater than 34" - You have the regular Trapper | |||

The Wrangler 94 comes in 32 Win special caliber | |||
The finger lever is normal sized -You have the regular "Wrangler" variation | |||

The barrel is 26" half round half octagon - #9 style rolled engraving - You have the Grade I variation. | |||

The Timber 94 Winchester has a walnut stock and 17-18" barrel | |||
The barrel is 17.75" long and caliber is .444 Marlin - You have the Carbine variation. | |||
The barrel is 18" long and caliber is 30-30 win or 44 Rem mag - You have the Scout variation. | |||

The Custom Grade 94 Winchester has a cut checkered stock | |||
The receiver is case colored - checkered straight stock,. You have the Custom Limited Edition variation. | |||
The receiver is blued with custom scrolled engraving (moose) - spade-checkered pistol-grip stock - You have the New Generation custom variation. | |||
